N.B.:
Juriaen Pool II grew up as an orphan in the Burgerweeshuis in Amsterdam, which now houses the Amsterdam Museum. His father, Jurriaan Pool I, was a silversmith and died in 1669 when Juriaen was only four years old. Due to his father's guild membership, which financially supported the widows and orphans of colleagues, the young Pool II was able to receive an education in the arts. In 1693 he married Rachel Ruysch, the most famous female artist of the period, mainly known for her abundant still lifes of flowers, with whom he had ten children.
