Besides a limited number of still lifes and refined genre scenes, Reinier de la Haye was well-known for his sophisticated portraits of high-ranking individuals. De la Haye typically painted small, meticulously detailed portraits that gained popularity towards the late seventeenth century.
De la Haye's works demonstrate a remarkable skill in capturing the texture and richness of silks and fabrics, as shown in the lavish ‘Japonse Rok’ worn by De Moor in this portrait. De la Haye moved to Utrecht in 1669, where De Moor later followed with his wife, Anna Catharina van den Boogaard (1656-1725), which would explain the creation of this portrait during their time in Utrecht.
